The Sound of Tokyo Nights

The Sound Of Tokyo Nights #1

The Sound Of Tokyo Nights #2

If you want to get a sense of the experience of walking the streets of Shinjuku, Tokyo at night the following playlist pretty much sums up the kind of music I was listening to on my head phones. The playlist worked perfectly for my time in Tokyo and is very evocative to me when I listen to it while looking at the photographs of Tokyo street life. The Disk Union shop that features in the lower photograph is where I spent many hours digging through the racks of vinyl records.

Self Portrait

Self Portrait in Tokyo

This photograph wasn’t intended as a self portrait I was set on photographing the amazing spectacle cleaning trolley that was on the pavement outside of the opticians. The illustration of the girl’s face and typography [formerly calligraphy] are wonderful aren’t they. I’m very camera shy who actually likes photographs of themselves apart from models?

Shop Til You Drop Tokyo Style

Celine and Fendi Tokyo

The thing I really like about this image, and why I think it works, is that the architecture of the shops is so super sharp and minimal juxtaposed with the trees in the foreground. Luckily it was winter when I took the photograph so the trees aren’t in leaf highlighting the effect of the organic vs man made. Actually the time I spent in this westernised part of Tokyo was far less enjoyable than when I felt fully immersed in the more typically Japanese parts of the city but at least I did get to experience as many aspects of the city by making full use of the underground system.
